DURHAM, N.C. (www.NCCUEaglePride.com) –
The Lady Eagles of North Carolina Central University split two days of tennis competition with a 6-1 win over Norfolk State on Friday, March 9 in Norfolk, Va., and a 4-3 loss to Appalachian State on Saturday, March 10 in Durham, N.C.

Junior Oleysa Palko, senior Cameron Chatman and freshman Ekaterina Nekrasova went undefeated on the weekend in singles play.
On Friday, March 9, NCCU defeated Norfolk State in Norfolk, Va.  In the 6-1 victory, the mighty maroon dropped on set in No. 5 singles position.

Cameron Chatman and Oleysa Palko defeated Naeemah Brooks 8-3, while Ekaterina Nekrasova and Rebecca Wood beat Kai Batiste and Maryna Kariuk 8-0.  NSU did not have No. 3 doubles team, so the Lady Eagles took the No. 3 doubles win by forfeit.

In singles competition, Palko conquered Brooks, 6-4, 6-2, Chatman overpowered Gutierrez 6-2, 6-2, Nekrasova beat Karuik, 6-0, 6-0 and Wood defeated Rebecca Graff, 6-1, 6-1.  Maroon and gray freshman Julia Aguilar dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision to Batiste, while mid-season newcomer Lakisha McDougald seized the No. 6 singles victory by forfeit.

NCCU concluded the weekend with a 3-4 loss to Appalachian State on the NCCU Tennis Courts.  While the ASU clinched the doubles point with three straight wins and three singles wins sealed the match victory, it was the demonstrative NCCU performance from No.1 singles player, Oleysa Palko, No. 2 singles player, Cameron Chatman and No. 3 Ekaterina Nekrasova.

Palko defeated her ASU competition Ellie Linsell, 7-6, 6-0 in a fierce hour long match, as Chatman beat Jennifer Anasri, 6-4, 6-2.

Nekrasova and Gabriela Celi went through a sudden-death match to determine the win, which Nekrasova took 6-1, 2-6 (10-7).

The mighty maroon returns to action on Sunday, March 18 on the NCCU Tennis Courts, with 2:00 p.m. Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matchup against South Carolina State University.
