Award Winning Story- NCCU EAGLES GROUNDED BY MIDWEST STORM
DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – North Carolina Central University Associate Athletics Director for Media Relations
Kyle Serba has been named a District 3 winner in the 2011 CoSIDA Fred S. Stabley Sr. Writing Contest with his story titled “NCCU Eagles Grounded by Midwest Storm” detailing the trials and tribulations of the men’s basketball team's journey from Colorado Springs, Colo. to Ann Arbor, Mich. on Dec. 12, 2010.
Storms in and around the greater Chicago area forced the NCCU men’s basketball squad and its travel party to ride nine hours on what would typically take four hours due to a torrential winter storm. Serba’s account takes readers from the 5:40 a.m. (Mountain time) departure from the hotel in Colorado Springs to the 1:18 a.m. arrival at the team’s hotel in Ypslanti, Mich.
Serba was named District 3 (North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Virginia) winner in the Blog/Interview section of the contest. All district and national winners will be recognized Wednesday afternoon, June 29 at the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Annual Convention in Marco Island, Fla.
