DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – Amidst a five-game losing streak, the North Carolina Central University baseball program will head down to the Peach State for a MEAC/SWAC season-ending series against the Tigers from Texas Southern University. The three-game set will begin on Thursday, April 28 at 6:00 p.m. and ending on Friday, April 29 in doubleheader action at 12:00 from the Marquis Grissom Field of Dreams in Conyers, Ga.

This final series of the season will see the Diamond Eagles take on its first opponent west of the Mississippi River in Texas Southern who entered the week with a 19-21 record overall and sat in fourth place in the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Western Division at 8-13 just three games behind rival Prairie View A&M who is 11-10 in league action.

The Tigers entered this week’s play red hot winning eight of its last nine contests including a three-game sweep over second place Grambling State University.

TSU had an out-of-conference matchup with Auburn University on Wednesday evening, but coming into the week are led at the plate by Anthony Flenoy who has recorded 49 hits in 38 games played batting .371 on the year putting him fifth in the league, while teammate Justin Cook leads the squad with 13 doubles on the season good enough for fifth in the conference as well.

As a team Texas Southern is the third best hitting squad in the league with a team batting average of .289 and is tied for third with 69 doubles hit this season. On the mound, the Tigers are third-best in the SWAC with a ERA of 5.04 with a 11 saves on the season.

Taking the hill for the maroon and gray of NCCU (6-37) in the series will be sophomore Glenn Frye (Lillington, N.C.) who leads the squad with 62 strikeouts on the year. Frye (2-8, 7.23 ERA) needs nine K’s to equal former Eagle Alex Weathersby’s modern day single season record of 71 strikeouts in a season. He’ll make his start No. 11 of the season on Thursday in game one which is slated for a 6:00 start.

Game two will send senior Douglas Dalley (Durham, N.C.) to the mound for the final time in his Eagle career. The current all-time strikeout leader has compiled 105 K’s during his time at NCCU and enters the weekend in search of his first win of the season. Dalley will go to the mound in game one of the twinbill.

The final contest of the 2011 season will take place 30 minutes after the first game on Friday and junior Sam Fulmer (Raleigh, N.C.) is slated to make his sixth start of the season. Fulmer (0-4, 7.12 ERA) has been effective in his last few outings in long relief for the Eagles especially last weekend against Savannah State University where he went six innings and allowed just one earned run with three hits scattered with one strikeout.

All three contests will be broadcasted live via the NCCU Sports Network as play-by-play voice, Chris Hooks, will call the action from the Marquis Grissom Field of Dreams in Conyers, Ga. It all begins at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday, April 28 with Eagle Gameday presented by the Hilton RTP to take listeners up to first pitch. On Friday morning the pregame show begins at 11:45 p.m.
