DURHAM, N.C.-  (NCCUEaglePride.com) - The North Carolina Central University baseball team let out 11 games worth of frustration on Wednesday afternoon, earning their first win of the season while setting a modern day record for runs in a game in a 22-5 trouncing of Florida A&M  salvaging a win in the three game set after being swept in doubleheader action on Tuesday afternoon at Moore-Kittles Field in Tallahassee, Fla..

Not since Feb. 18, 2007 when NCCU beat Morehouse 18-9 had the Diamond Eagles ever scored this many runs in a win. In fact, this was the first time in the five year modern era that the Eagles had scored 20 or more runs in a game.

A huge contrast to Tuesday where the Diamond Eagles left 23 combined runners on base, NCCU recorded a season-high 23 hits including seven doubles, one triple, and one grand-slam by senior first baseman Blake Murray (Wendell, N.C.) who went 2-for-5 with that four-run blast in the top of the third and seven RBIs for NCCU.

Freshman shortstop Dylan Drayton finished the day 3-for-5 and nearly got the cycle hitting a single, double, and a triple along with accouting for two RBIs. Junior Ross Plummer (Winston-Salem, N.C.) went a stellar 4-for-6 at the dish with a double, two RBIs and four runs scored.

On Wednesday, the Eagles did it early and often after bolting out in the top of the first with seven runs to take a commanding lead it would never relinquish. NCCU added to the margin with four runs in the third, four in the fourth, five in the fifth, and finished up the scoring with two runs in the seventh. The contest was called after the seventh because of the 10-run rule, giving the Eagles the 22-5 victory. Seven eagles recorded two or more hits and every player that went to the plate got a hit in the win.

“I thought we played outstanding baseball today,” said NCCU baseball coach Dr. Henry White. “Our guys played hard and set the tone from the first inning. No disrespect to Florida A&M, but we’re a hitting team and we expect to hit like that on yesterday, but we took a step forward today. Now we just have to build upon this.”

Sophomore Glenn Frye earned his first win of the season pitching a complete game, striking out six batters, and allowing just three earned runs.

NCCU (1-11) has a day off to travel up to Clinton, S.C. to take on the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College for a weekend three-game set starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 11 from the PC Baseball Complex. Junior righthander Sam Fulmer (Raleigh, N.C.) will get the nod in the series opener.
