CLINTON, S.C.- (NCCUEaglePride.com) - The North Carolina Central University baseball team got another solid outing from senior hurler Drew Robinson (Carthage, N.C.) but managed just 10 hits and left just as many runners stranded as Presbyterian College finished off the weekend sweep with an 11-2 win on Sunday afternoon at the PC Baseball Complex in Clinton, S.C.

Robinson lasted five full innings allowing just eight hits and four earned runs while striking out three Blue Hose batters, but the lack of run support in the series finale cost the Eagles dearly.

In the top of the first the top of the NCCU lineup was able to drive in the first run of the day thanks in part to an Akeem Hood (Raleigh, N.C.) single and stolen base followed up by a Carter Williamson (Salem, Va.) single down the right field line putting the maroon and grey on top 1-0 with his tenth RBI of the season.. Williamson, Hood, and junior Ross Plummer (Winston-Salem, N.C.) were the only three Eagles to record multiple hits on the day. Williamson (.373) and Hood (.365) now are one and two in batting average on the team.

Presbyterian (10-6) went on to score at least one or two runs in five of the first six innings of the game. After scoring two runs in the bottom of the first and in the bottom of the third where the Blue Hose actually left the bases loaded, PC scored just one run in the fourth, and in the fifth, but again left the bases loaded which highlights the performance that righty Robinson put forth on the hill.

In the sixth inning with the score 6-1, the Eagles put together back-to-back hits and had runners on second and third with one out and even loaded the bases when senior Blake Murray (Wendell, N.C.) was hit by a pitch. Yet the Diamond Eagles were not able to drive in any runs during the frame after freshman Tyson Simpson (Rocky Point, N.C.) struck out and Murray was tagged out on a force play to end the threat.

PC responded with two more runs to put the score at 8-1 thank to Tony Micklon who hit a two-run home run to cap off a five run day in leading the Blue Hose.

Presbyterian added three more runs in the eighth inning in which two of those runs were driven in off the bat of Aaron Preston’s first round tripper of the year as the Blue Hose used that to pull away for the 11-2 win.

The Diamond Eagles have a short time to regroup with the final road contest of this seven-game road swing as NCCU travels across the street to take on Duke University on Tuesday, March 15 at 3:15 p.m. at Jack Coombs Field.
