CLINTON, S.C.- (NCCUEaglePride.com) - The North Carolina Central University baseball team allowed two big innings to spoil the chance for their second win of the season as the Diamond Eagles dropped an 11-5 decision to the Presbyterian College Blue Hose on Friday afternoon and PC Baseball Complex.

NCCU did continue to pound the baseball with 14 hits but leaving 13 runners stranded aided in the loss in the first game of the three game set.

The Eagles threw the first punch of the ballgame after a PC error that allowed freshman Troy Marrow to reach base in the top of the first inning which was promptly followed up by freshman catcher Carter Williamson slapping a double to right field to drive in Marrow and give the Eagles the early 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the first, the Blue Hose answered with an offensive flurry of their own with five runs and two hits that included two doubles that gave PC the 5-1 lead after one inning.

After a scoreless second where the Eagles left the bases loaded, the Blue Hose went right back to work putting up another five spot that included two NCCU errors and a two-run homer by Presbyterian’s Tony Micklon. All in all, PC led 10-1 after two complete putting NCCU in a whole it could not get out of.

After the Eagles and Blue Hose traded runs in the third inning to put the score at 11-2, the NCCU defense held tight the rest of the way and even scored three runs in two of the final three innings to end the contest at 11-5.

Williamson led the Eagles in hits on the day going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Both seniors Blake Murray (Wendell, N.C.) and Edward Pegues (Lauringburg, N.C.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI in the loss for NCCU.

NCCU (1-12) looks to regroup in the second game of the series on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the PC Baseball Complex. Freshman Jacob Russell (Winston-Salem, N.C.) will take the hill for the Diamond Eagles.
