STATESBORO, Ga. - After a weekend of baseball between the Eagles of North Carolina Central University and the Georgia Southern University Eagles, NCCU is still on the hunt for its first victory of the season. NCCU fell to 0-7 on the season after this weekend’s series sweep by GSU at J.I. Clements Stadium in Statesboro, Ga.
The Eagles struggled to put runs on the board the entire weekend with a combined total of six runs off of 26 hits during the three-game series. On Friday in game one, Georgia Southern shut out NCCU, holding them scoreless with a final score of 0-15. Sophomore
Nate Smith led the team at the plate for NCCU batting 2-for-3 with a double.

Glenn Frye started the series on the mound for the Eagles giving up 10 quick runs in his two innings of play. Senior

Brandon Strickland finished the game on the mound for the Eagles.
Game two for the Eagles took place on Saturday afternoon when they put their first two runs of the series on the board courtesy of an eighth inning, two-run home run by Smith before falling to GSU 2-12. Collectively, NCCU had 10 hits in game two produced by eight different student-athletes. Freshman

Etienne Farquharson combined for four of the Eagles 10 hits on the afternoon.

Jacob Russell was the starting pitcher for NCCU in game two, throwing 4.1 innings with two strikeouts and giving up 10 runs. Junior
Tim Rennard threw 2.2 innings for the Eagles giving up one run, while Strickland closed the game once again giving up one run during his solo inning on the hill.
The series ended on Sunday afternoon when the Eagles were defeated by Georgia Southern to close out the three-game sweep. NCCU fell to GSU in game three with a final score of 4-20. Four different Eagles tried to shut down the GSU offense on the mound, but the host Eagles turned all of their 20 hits into 20 total runs on the afternoon.

Ross Plummer and Drayton each had two hits for the Eagles. NCCU had 11 total hits in game three of series, the most produced by the team since game two of the season. The Eagles could not capitalize on their hits, leaving 10 runners on base while only scoring four runs in the game.
The Eagles return to the diamond Monday afternoon as they take on Villanova University at 3:00 at the Durham Athletic Park.
