DURHAM, N.C. (NCCUEaglePride.com) – The North Carolina Central University men’s basketball team used double-digit performances from eight different student-athletes, outrebounded Johnson and Wales 51-19, and shot an astounding 65.2% from the field to cruise to the 115-41 victory and set some high marks in the home opener on Sunday afternoon from McDougald-McLendon Gym.

For the first time since Nov. 25, 2003 the Eagles broke the 100-point barrier while scoring the third-most points in a contest in school history; the most points (115) since March 12, 1949 when NCCU beat Winston-Salem State University 119-65.  The 74-point margin of victory is the largest margin of an Eagle win since Feb. 18, 1944 when the Eagles beat St. Augustine’s College 119-34 (85 points).

The Eagles stormed out in front in the first half and never looked back scoring the first 12 points of the contest.

In fact with 15:20 to go in the first half, the visiting Wildcats scored its fourth point to make it 17-4.  Over the next eight minutes, NCCU outscored the Wildcats 33-6 to pull ahead 50-10 and carried that all the way to a 66-23 lead at the half.

Senior sharpshooter Landon Clement (Raleigh, N.C.) led from the get-go scoring 15 first-half points that included a deadly 3-for-6 from the outside.  Senior forward Dominique Sutton (Durham, N.C.) went a perfect 6-6 from the field in the first half to finish the first 20 minutes with 14 points while the Eagles mounted the large lead.

Clement finished with a game-high 21 points along with three assists and three steals.  Sutton nearly pulled off his second double-double as he ended up with 18 points and nine rebounds, while finishing a perfect 8-for-8 that included seven crowd-pleasing dunks.  After two games, the 6-5 forward has 11 dunks to lead the team.

It was more of the same for NCCU in the second stanza as the maroon and gray outscored the Wildcats 49-18, strolling to the 115-41 win.

Along with Clement and Sutton’s contributions, Tramar Beaman recorded a career-high 14 points along with Justin Leemow who scored 12 points, Ray Willis added 11 points, Nick Chasten scored in double figures for the 42nd time in his Eagle career adding 11 points, Ebuka Anyaorah contributed 11 points, and freshman Karamo Jawara nearly amassed his first double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds.

Under head coach LeVelle Moton, the Eagles are a perfect 3-0 in home openers and their average margin of victory is 49.6 points.

NCCU (1-1) looks to take them momentum of the win on the road as the Eagles head up north to Staten Island, N.Y. to take on the Seahawks of Wagner College on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. from the Spiro Sports Center.
