The maroon and gray look to regroup as they take on the University of Miami. This is game two of a strenuous three-game stretch for the Eagles which concludes on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at Indiana. THE SERIES

NCCU and Miami have met twice on the hardwood with the Canes taking both meetings in convincing fashion. The first meeting took place on Jan. 3, 2009 with the Hurricanes pulling away in the second half in a 76-42 win. Meeting number two took place on Nov. 14, 2009 when Miami won 83-53.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MIAMI HURRICANES

Durand Scott, Malcolm Grant and Reggie Johnson combined for 50 of Miami’s 68 points, but it wasn’t enough as Miami fell to No. 19 Memphis, 72-68, to kick off ESPN’s third annual College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon in front of 17,873 at FedExForum. Memphis’ Joe Jackson scored 10 of his 17 points in the second half, and the Tigers escaped a poor shooting night to escape Miami early Tuesday. Chris Carmouche had 13 points and Wesley Witherspoon added 12 for Memphis (2-0), despite making only 1 of 5 shots from the field. Antonio Barton finished with 10 points for the Tigers, who shot 34 percent, and managed only 4 of 22 from 3-point range in a game that began at Midnight. The Hurricanes (1-1) received their expected scoring from guards Scott (20) -- who posted his second-straight 20-point performance and fifth of his career -- and Grant (18). But they also got stellar play from Johnson, who finished with a double-double of 12 points and a career-high tying 12 rebounds despite battling foul trouble all night. The Hurricanes are led by head coach Frank Haith who is in his seventh season and has compiled a 109-67 record including four postseason appearances. (3 NIT, 1 NCAA). During his tenure Haith has produced a first, second, or rookie team All-ACC player in each of his six seasons. The “U’s” Malcolm Grant (Junior, Brooklyn, N.Y.) combined with Durand Scott (Sophomore, New York, N.Y.) are one of the top one-two punches in the ACC averaging 40.5 points as a pair.
