NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University junior bowler
Laverne Jones earned All-MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) Second-Team accolades for her performance during the 2011-2012 bowling season, the conference announced Thursday.
The Goldsboro, N.C., native led the Lady Eagles in every statistical category during her third season on the squad. Jones' efforts on the lanes helped NCCU finish its first season as a full MEAC member with a 47-48 overall record and a 13-17 mark in conference play.
Jones earned MEAC player of the week status following the Lady Eagles’ second competition of the season at the Elizabeth City State Open in Nags Head, N.C. She knocked down a total of 1085 pins during five games, maintained her season-best game average of 217 pins, while bowling a season and team high game of 248.
The Lady Eagles junior finished the season with a 7803 total pin fall, one of only two NCCU student-athletes to bowl in all 42 team games, and ended the regular season with a 185.5 pin per game average.
NCCU returns to the lanes this weekend, March 16-18, in Greensboro, N.C., as the Lady Eagles take part in the eight-team field MEAC Bowling Championship.
