NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University freshman specialist Riley Daniels was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday.
 
Daniels remained perfect on field-goal attempts this season after connecting from 29 and 24 yards during the Eagles' 27-6 victory over Elizabeth City State on Saturday at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium.
 
The Raleigh, North Carolina, native also converted all three of his extra-point attempts, accounting for nine points in NCCU's home-opening victory. His 29-yard field goal extended the Eagles' lead to 24-0 in the third quarter before his 24-yard conversion produced the game's final points early in the fourth.
 
Daniels, a Rolesville High School product, is now 5-for-5 on field-goal attempts through the first two games of his collegiate career.
 
The honor is the first MEAC weekly award of Daniels' career and marks the second consecutive week an Eagle has been selected as the conference's Rookie of the Week. Freshman quarterback Nelson Layne received the honor following NCCU's season opener against Texas Southern.
 
NCCU (1-1) returns to O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 12, to host North Carolina A&T in the 98th Eagle-Aggie Classic. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the game will air live on ESPN+.
