PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – North Carolina Central fell 9-3 to Maryland Eastern Shore in the softball series finale at Hawk Stadium on Sunday.
Down 6-0, the Eagles threatened in the sixth inning, pulling within 6-3 on RBI singles by
Hannah McGonigle and
Avrelle Harrell and a sacrifice fly by
Kristin Corner. But the Hawks scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to push their lead back to six runs.
McGonigle continued her strong weekend performance - including her first collegiate homer on Saturday - with a 2 for 3 day at the plate.
Isabella Slape and Harrell were both 1 for 1 and
Daiyah Bailey added a hit. Slape also recorded a stolen base.
Izabella Chavez,
Wynter Williams and
Kendal Daniels each scored a run for the Eagles (5-13 MEAC, 7-36 overall), who garnered five hits. The Hawks (5-13 MEAC, 13-30 overall) finished with 10 hits.

The Eagles will host Western Carolina in a non-conference doubleheader at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C., on Tuesday, April 21. The opening game starts at 2 p.m. followed by the second game at approximately 4 p.m.
