Hidalgo Vega Earns Third MEAC Player of the Week Honor

NORFOLK, Va. – For the second consecutive week, Alejandra Hidalgo Vega of North Carolina Central has been named MEAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week, marking her third time receiving the honor this season, as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

In last week's matches, Hidalgo Vega helped the Eagles to a 2-1 record while going a perfect 3-0 across singles and doubles play. Her singles victories included a 6-1, 6-3 win over South Carolina State's Katerina Marsalkova, as well as a 10-point tiebreak thriller against Norfolk State's Yuliya Yurkova.

The Madrid, Spain native also picked up a Senior Day victory over Shaw's Tanaka Garikai, winning in dominant fashion with a pair of 6-0 sets in her final home match.

Hidalgo Vega closed the regular season on a seven-match singles winning streak and a six-match doubles winning streak, teaming with Valentina de Aquino. The senior finished her MEAC campaign with a perfect 6-0 conference record at No. 1 singles and a 5-0 mark at No. 3 doubles.

NC Central now turns its focus to the postseason, where it will host the MEAC Tennis Championships from April 23-25 at Cary Tennis Park.
