DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central steps out of conference play for a midweek softball game against Appalachian State at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium in Boone, N.C., on Wednesday. Game time is 6 p.m.
Both teams met twice this season at the Tennessee Invitational on Feb. 27-28. Another game was scheduled at the Tar Heel Invitational on Feb. 22 but was canceled due to inclement weather.
The Eagles (7-32 overall) are coming off a tough weekend, falling to Delaware State in all three MEAC contests at home. The Mountaineers (24-16 overall) were also winless, losing three games on the road to Louisiana Monroe in Sun Belt Conference action.
Tyler Suttles paces the Eagles offensively, hitting .350 with 18 RBIs, both team highs. Suttles and
Kendal Daniels are tied for second on the team with 17 runs scored.
Mia De La Fuente has knocked in 16 runs and
Izabella Chavez has 15 RBIs.
Daiyah Bailey leads the Eagles with 41 hits, 24 runs scored and 11 stolen bases.
For the Mountaineers, Makayla McClain bats .412 with 18 home runs and 44 RBIs and Grace Barrett is hitting .361 with 41 RBIs.
This is the last week the Eagles will be on the road during the regular season. After taking on Appalachian State, NCCU heads to Princess Anne, Md., this weekend for a three-game MEAC series against Maryland Eastern Shore.
