DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central is at home for the second straight weekend as the Eagles host Delaware State in a three-game MEAC softball series at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C.
The series gets underway Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. and approximately 3 p.m. Both teams play again Sunday in a single game at 12 p.m.
NCCU (5-7 MEAC, 7-29 overall) looks to rebound in conference play after falling to league-leading Howard three times at home last weekend. Outfielders
Tyler Suttles and
Daiyah Bailey pace the Eagles offensively.
Suttles leads the Eagles with a .352 batting average and ranks among the MEAC leaders in several categories. She is tied for sixth in RBIs (19), tied for first in triples (4) and tied for seventh in stolen bases (10). Bailey ranks first in the MEAC in hits (36), ranks sixth in runs scored (20) and is tied for third in stolen bases (13) for the Eagles, who rank second in MEAC games in batting average (.317).
On the mound,
Madeline Janssen ranks fifth in the conference with 42 strikeouts. She has recorded four pitching victories this season.
Delaware State (6-6 MEAC, 15-16 overall) enters the series on a five-game winning streak, including a three-game sweep of Morgan State last weekend. Mianna Lopez Del Haro leads the Hornets on offense, ranking fourth in the MEAC in batting average (.398) and first in on base + slugging percentage (1.266). She is tied for fifth in hits (33) and tied for 10th in RBIs (17).
Hornets' pitcher Kaylanie Rodriguez has four wins and a 3.25 earned run average, which ranks fifth in the MEAC. Teammate Kristin White leads the conference with 63 strikeouts. Defensively, the Hornets rank third in fielding (.956 percentage) in league games.
NCCU has won 13 of the last 16 games against the Hornets, including a 1-0 victory in the final game of a three-game series in 2025.
