CARY, N.C. – North Carolina Central closed out the 2026 softball season with a 10-7 victory over South Carolina State at Thomas Brooks Park on Sunday.
The trio of
Madeline Janssen,
Tyler Suttles and
Elana Krupey led the Eagles on Senior Day. Janssen, a senior pitcher, hurled seven complete innings for her fifth win of the season.
Krupey and Suttles combined for five RBIs for the Eagles, who totaled nine hits. Suttles smacked a three-run double to highlight a six-run third inning for a 7-3 lead. Earlier in the inning, Krupey hit a two-run single and
Hannah McGonigle connected on an RBI single to erase a 3-1 deficit.
The Bulldogs (12-9 MEAC, 20-19 overall) cut the lead to 7-5 in the fifth inning but the Eagles increased their lead to 10-5 in the same inning. Krupey scored on an error while
Kendal Daniels and
Mia De La Fuente both added RBIs.
South Carolina State sliced the deficit to 10-7 in the sixth but Janssen shut the door in the seventh, retiring the side to clinch the win for the Eagles (6-15 MEAC, 8-40 overall).
The victory was a fitting ending for Janssen, who was honored in a Senior Day ceremony along with manager
Jordyn Meeks. The Eagles also recognized four South Carolina State seniors.
The pregame festivities included Dr. Mohammad Ahmed, NCCU Dean of the College of Health and Sciences, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
Krupey finished with three hits and
Avrelle Harrell collected two hits.
Kristin Corner, McGonigle, Suttles and
Isabella Slape each had a hit.
Daiyah Bailey, Harrell and Krupey each scored two runs while Daniels, Corner, Slape and McGonigle each crossed the plate.
