Eagles Open Home Slate Against Gardner-Webb In Doubleheader

DURHAM, N.C. – After four consecutive weekends on the road, North Carolina Central hosts Gardner-Webb in a home-opening doubleheader Tuesday at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, N.C. The first game begins at 3 p.m. with the second game starting approximately at 5 p.m.

Gardner-Webb is the latest opponent on a challenging non-conference schedule for the Eagles, who played in four tournaments in as many weeks. They battled against national competition including six Power Four programs. This past weekend, the Eagles (1-17 overall) competed in the Tennessee Invitational where they took on top-ranked Tennessee and No. 24/25 Penn State.

Several Eagles have stood out during that stretch. Pitcher Madeline Janssen was named to the NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament team while freshmen Mia De La Fuente and Kendal Daniels earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors.

Tyler Suttles, a two-time All-MEAC selection, is the Eagles' top hitter after the first month of the season. She heads into this week with a.359 batting average, 14 hits and five RBIs, all team highs. Suttles and Daniels are tied for the team lead with four runs apiece.

Gardner-Webb (14-7 overall) enters Tuesday's doubleheader on a four-game winning streak but are 3-2 in away games. The Runnin' Bulldogs are led offensively by Allie Stidham and Caitlin Colley. Stidham bats .455 with 24 RBIs and Colley hits .375 with 27 RBIs. Both players have each scored 21 runs.

The Eagles are seeking to beat Gardner-Webb for the first time in 14 games between both teams. The last victory for NCCU occurred in 2018, a 7-5 eight-inning win in Boiling Springs, N.C.
