NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central forwards
Aniya Finger and
Morgan Callahan were awarded for a stellar regular season by earning spots on the All-MEAC women's basketball team, which was announced at the MEAC Basketball Tournament Awards at Chrysler Hall on Tuesday. The all-conference team and individual awards were voted on by the league's head coaches and sports information directors.
The inside tandem of Finger and Callahan were named to the second unit. Finger claimed postseason all-conference honors for the first time while Callahan garnered her third consecutive All-MEAC accolade. The duo leads the Eagles in points and rebounds.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Finger ranked fifth in scoring (13.5 ppg) and rebounding (7.2 rpg) in conference games including 30 points, 12 rebounds and six steals to help hand Maryland Eastern Shore its first league loss 69-62 in early February. She shot 43.6 percent from the floor in league games which ranked sixth.
Finger led the team in scoring 11 times and rebounding 10 times while scoring in double figures 16 of 25 games and posting six double-doubles.
The award is especially gratifying to Finger, a graduate forward who played the second full season of her career. She was out last season due to injury.
Callahan's All-MEAC accolade is the latest in a long list of achievements for the graduate forward, who became the school's career scoring leader (1,358 points) in the Division I era this season. She averaged 11.7 points in MEAC games, which tied for ninth and ranked fourth in rebounding (7.6 rpg) in conference tilts. An athletic and versatile player, Callahan also averaged 1.9 steals per contest in conference contests, which tied for 11
th.
A native of Beach Park, Ill., Callahan scored in double figures 16 times including three games over 20 points. She produced 22 points and 13 rebounds versus Morgan State in February, one of her six double-doubles this season. For her career, the NCCU forward totaled 25 double-doubles in points and rebounds.She was the Eagles' top scorer eight times and leading rebounder in 14 games while pacing the team in steals eight times.
Nationally, Callahan ranks 83
rd in Division I in free throw attempts (150).

Finger, Callahan and their NCCU teammates will face Coppin State in the MEAC Tournament quarterfinals in Norfolk, Va. on Thursday, March 12, at noon.
