DURHAM, N.C. – Bolstered by two victories this week, North Carolina Central enters its next two games with momentum, starting with Saturday's road contest at Norfolk State beginning at 2 p.m.
After returning from Norfolk State, the Eagles will host Delaware State in another MEAC contest. Game time is 5:30 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
Both contests will be livestreamed on ESPN+.
The Eagles (1-4 MEAC, 5-14) are looking to build off two impressive home victories this week. They started the week on Monday by beating Maryland Eastern Shore, previously unbeaten in the conference, by a 69-62 score at home. Behind a career-high 30 points in addition to 10 rebounds and six steals from
Aniya Finger, the Eagles topped UMES for their first MEAC win of the season.
Finger was one of two Eagles who were spectacular on the court this week. The next night,
Aysia Hinton poured in a career-high 36 points on a record-breaking 12 three-pointers in a 103-51 non-conference win over William Peace at home on Tuesday.
Hinton, the NCCU single-game record-holder in points and made three-pointers in the Division I era, is currently atop the NCAA list for most threes in a game this season on any level.
The Eagles will need more stellar performances as they prepare for Norfolk State and Delaware State. Norfolk State (5-2 MEAC, 10-12) is third in the conference standings and defeated NCCU 68-48 last month. The Spartans are both the top scoring team (69.7 ppg) and defensive team (allowing 54.7 ppg) in conference play.
Delaware State has been sizzling from deep in league games. The Hornets lead the MEAC in three-point shooting percentage (.360) against conference foes.
NCCU counters with a defense that ranks 14
th in the nation in turnovers forced per game (22.95).
Morgan Callahan leads the Eagles with 1.8 steals per game in addition to pacing the team in scoring (12.3 ppg) and rebounding (7.1 rpg).
Keep an eye on Callahan, who is the program's career leader in games started and played in the Division I era. She is 28 points away from becoming the career points leader in the Division I era.
