NORFOLK, Va. – The North Carolina Central men's tennis team swept the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference weekly honors, announced Tuesday afternoon. Naresh Bharathy was named Player of the Week, while Santiago Pinna earned his second Rookie of the Week award.
Bharathy went undefeated in singles and doubles last weekend, helping the Eagles go 2-0. At No. 1 singles, the senior posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over NC Wesleyan's Indrek Raudkivi and followed with a three-set victory against Davidson's Goyo Hidalgo.
Teaming with Antoni Pankowski, Bharathy also secured the doubles point in both matches, as the duo claimed victories at No. 2 doubles.
Pinna improved to 3-2 in singles play with wins over the Bishops and Wildcats. The freshman defeated NC Wesleyan's Julian Valverde 6-4, 6-1 and topped Davidson's Daniel Cowan 6-1, 6-3.
The Eagles travel to UNC Asheville on Saturday, Feb. 28, starting play at 1 p.m.
