NORFOLK, Va. – Rodrigo Alves of the North Carolina Central men's tennis team was named the MEAC Player of the Week, announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Tuesday.
Alves won in singles and doubles in the Eagles' close loss to Campbell last weekend. Paired with Kareem Abdul Hakim, the duo triumphed 6-4 in No. 1 doubles over Thomas Drapeau and Max Hamon.
The senior followed up that match with a 6-4, 7-6 victory in No. 2 singles. Alves used a 7-3 tiebreaker to finish out the second set over Alex Fragasso.
NC Central's second match of the week was at North Carolina. Alves played Roan Jones, who's ranked 104th in the nation by ITA. Their match went unfinished, as the Eagles fell 5-0 to the Tarheels.
The Eagles host North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday, Feb. 20 at Cary Tennis Park. The match starts at 1 p.m.
