Pankowski, Pinna Lead Eagles Sweep of MEAC Men’s Tennis Weekly Awards

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central men's tennis swept the MEAC Weekly honors as Antoni Pankowski and Santiago Pinna earned conference awards. Pankowski was named MEAC Player of the Week, while Pinna garnered Rookie of the Week honors, as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Pankowski went 2-0 in singles play last week, helping the Eagles earn their first win of the season. The junior claimed a victory at No. 11 NC State on Feb. 2 after his opponent retired in the second set. He followed that performance with a straight-set win at the No. 5 position against UNC Greensboro, along with a 7-5 doubles victory paired with Naresh Bharathy.

Pinna earned his first collegiate win at UNCG on Feb. 7, posting a 6-4, 7-6 victory at No. 6 singles against Eric Lindemann. The freshman powered through the second set with a 7-3 tiebreak, helping the Eagles take a 3-2 lead before Kareem Abdul Hakim clinched the match.

NC Central returns to the courts this weekend with a short trip to Chapel Hill's Chewning Tennis Center. The Eagles will face Campbell on Feb. 14 at 2:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with North Carolina on Feb. 15 at 5:30 p.m.
