GREENSBORO, N.C. – The North Carolina Central women's tennis team opened the fall season at UNC Greensboro at the Spartans' Hidden Dual Tournament on Sept. 13-14. The Eagles faced competition from Campbell, Davidson, North Carolina A&T and UNC Wilmington.
Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and Mariana Zottoli earned two singles victories on the first day of competition, defeating Campbell and Davidson. Valeria San Miguel Soria, Patricia Palencia, Sara Barbaric and Valentina de Aquino Monsanto also picked up singles wins on Saturday.
Momentum carried into doubles as three NCCU duos collected triumphs over the Campbell Camels. Included in those wins were Gabriela Mejia Arenas and freshman Journee Henderson.
The Maroon & Gray wrapped up play on Sunday as San Miguel Soria and Barbaric went undefeated in doubles over North Carolina A&T and UNCW. The remaining Eagles split their doubles contests.
Henderson, Palencia and de Aquino Monsanto all return to the Nest with 1-0 singles records on Sunday against the rival Aggies.
NC Central will have a few weeks to tune up for the 2025 MEAC Individual Championships at the Cary Tennis Park on Oct. 2-4. A chance to play at the ITA Conference Masters in November is at stake as each conference's singles and doubles champion earns the invitation.
