RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Central women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 4-0 sweep versus the Shaw Bears at Worthdale Park on Thursday afternoon. The Eagles finish the regular season with an 11-8 record, tying the win total from head coach Sofia Rachi's first season in 2023.
NCCU played a clinch match with Shaw, crowning the winner of the first team to four points.
The Eagles opened the match with the doubles point after Patricia Palencia and Gabriela Mejia Arenas won 6-4 in the No.1 slot, as well as the duo of Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and Valentina de Aquino Monsanto winning 6-3 in No.3 Doubles.
In singles, de Aquino Monsanto was the first to complete her match to extend the lead for NC Central with a 6-1, 6-0 victory in the No.5 position. Mariana Zottoli, the most recent MEAC Rookie of the Week, followed up with a pair of 6-1 sets in No.3 Singles.
Hidalgo Vega clinched the match, winning the No.1 slot 6-3, 6-0 for the final point.
NCCU shifts its focus to the postseason, hosting the 2025 MEAC Tennis Championships on April 24-26 at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.
