Eagles Advance to MEAC Semifinals With 4-0 Victory Over Coppin State

CARY, N.C. – In the first match at the 2025 MEAC Tennis Championships, the two-seeded NC Central women's tennis team defeated No.7 Coppin State 4-0 in the quarterfinal at the Cary Tennis Park on Thursday morning.

NCCU (12-8) earned the 1-0 advantage heading into singles after a 6-3 triumph in No.2 Doubles by Mariana Zottoli and Valeria San Miguel Soria, and a 6-1 victory by the No.3 Doubles team of Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and Valentina de Aquino Monsanto.

The final three points to clinch came from Hidalgo Vega, Gabriela Mejia Arenas and Patricia Palencia. Mejia Arenas' No.6 Singles match concluded first with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 outing.

Hidalgo Vega followed suit, earning the match's third point in 6-3, 6-0 sets in the No.1 slot. The deciding point came by way of Palencia's 6-3, 6-0 performance in the No.4 position. Palencia is now up to a five-match winning streak in singles.

The Eagles play the winner of the No.3 Howard vs No.6 Morgan State match in the semifinals on Friday, April 25 at 9 a.m.
