Box Score 2 GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina Central's men's tennis team bounced back from last weekend's loss to triumph on the road against two opponents. The Eagles started the day with a 5-2 win at North Carolina A&T, followed by a 6-1 victory at Guilford on Saturday.
NCCU (14-5, 4-1 MEAC) began the morning at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center for a faceoff with the Aggies. The Eagles rolled in doubles, clearing all three slots.
The Maroon & Gray earned four singles points from Hugo Hidalgo Vega, Kareem Abdul Hakim, Antoni Pankowski and Leo Fortier-Gariepy.
Both Hidalgo Vega's and Fortier-Gariepy's matches went to three sets, but the pair emerged as the victors. Abdul Hakim and Pankowski had the same set scores, winning 6-2, 7-5.
The winning mentality continued at the McMichael Centennial Class Courts as the Eagles only dropped one point to the Guilford Quakers.
NCCU swept doubles for the second time and used a different singles lineup to clinch five more points.
Oliver Saarinen, Neiman Sneed and Lucas Artigas got their first taste of singles action on Saturday in the Guilford match. The trio won No.4, 5 and 6 Singles, respectively.
Pankowski and Fortier-Gariepy also added to their daily singles win total. Pankowski triumphed in a pair of 6-1 sets, while Fortier-Gariepy earned two 6-2 set victories.
NC Central hosts Shaw for its regular-season finale on Friday, April 18. Hidalgo Vega and Saarinen will be honored for Senior Day pre-match.
