WASHINGTON, D.C. – In Saturday's doubleheader at the MEAC Round-Up, North Carolina Central's women's tennis team collected two victories versus Howard, 4-3 and Coppin State, 7-0 at the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation's East Capitol Campus. The Eagles are now 3-0 in conference action.

NCCU (8-7) started the morning with a hard-fought match against Howard. The Eagles would play from behind after dropping the doubles point.

Valeria San Miguel Soria struck first in singles for the Maroon & Gray, winning 6-1, 6-3 over Howard's Sifa Butcher in the No.2 position. Mariana Zottoli would follow that up with a 6-4, 6-1 win of her own in No.3 Singles, giving NCCU a 2-1 lead.

Howard tied up the match again with a victory in No. 5 Singles before Alejandra Hidalgo Vega took a three-set triumph over Nadia Pegram in the No.1 slot. HU's Imani Jean made the match 3-3 in No.4 Singles, with the contest coming down to NCCU's Gabriela Mejia Arenas.

For the second straight match, Mejia Arenas clinched in No.6 Singles, coming out on top 6-2, 6-4 for the winning point.

Later in the afternoon, NC Central swept Coppin State, dominating every match. With a 1-0 advantage following doubles, the Eagles kept the momentum in singles competition.
