DURHAM, N.C. - North Carolina Central will attempt to make a late push as the regular season winds down, starting with Saturday's MEAC women's basketball matchup against Howard on Senior Day at McDougald-McLendon Arena. Tip-off is at 2 p.m.
On Monday, March 3, NCCU hosts Norfolk State in its final home game of the season at 5:30 p.m. ESPN+ will livestream both games.
The Eagles (8-18, 5-6 MEAC) are tied for fourth with Maryland Eastern Shore (10-16, 5-6 MEAC) in the conference standings after Wednesday's road loss to UMES. They need to finish strong down the stretch to earn a top four seed in the MEAC Tournament, which will be held March 12-15 in Norfolk, Va. Two of their final three regular-season games are at home.
NCCU is looking to regroup after its 67-57 loss to Maryland Eastern Shore.
Kyla Bryant led the Eagles with 12 points and
Morgan Callahan added a double-double of 10 points and 14 rebounds in addition to three blocks.
Shakiria Foster chipped in 10 points and three steals and
Aysia Hinton registered nine points on 3 of 6 three-point shooting.
The Eagles are led by the one-two punch of Bryant and Callahan. Bryant (13.5 ppg) and Callahan (13.1 ppg) are ranked among the league's top 10 scorers and Callahan is third in rebounding (7.6 rpg) and blocked shots (1.4).

Shakiria Foster and
Aysia Hinton form one of the MEAC's top perimeter scoring trios. Foster is scoring at 11 points a clip and Hinton is connecting on .370 percent of her three-point attempts. The NCCU guards are among the conference's top 15 in three-pointers made per game, led by Hinton's 1.8 average. Guard-forward
Jada Tiggett is tied for the MEAC lead in blocked shots (2.2 bpg).
NCCU is taking on the league's heavyweights in its final two home matchups. Both Howard and Norfolk State have a combined conference record of one loss.
Howard (17-9, 10-1 MEAC) is on a seven-game win streak, including a 70-60 victory at Coppin State on Monday. Defending two-time champ Norfolk State (24-4, 11-0 MEAC) beat Morgan State 90-46 at home the same day for its 13
th straight victory. Both teams defeated the Eagles in early February.
Destiny Howell paces Howard in scoring (14.7 ppg) and Zennia Thomas is the team's rebounding leader (6.7 rpg). Saniyah King averages 12.4 points and a league-best 4.8 assists.
Norfolk State is sparked by Diamond Johnson, who leads the conference in points (19.0 ppg) and steals (3.3 spg) and is second in assists (4.2). Kierra Wheeler averages 15.2 points and 9.0 rebounds, which is second in the MEAC.
After facing Howard and Norfolk State, NCCU ends the regular season at South Carolina State on Thursday, March 6, at 5:30 p.m.
