Saarinen and Pankowski Earn Singles Victories in Loss to Campbell

CARY, N.C. – North Carolina Central University's men's tennis team earned two singles victories in Tuesday's 5-2 loss to Campbell University at the Cary Tennis Park. Sophomore Antoni Pankowski and senior Oliver Saarinen each secured their second singles wins of the season.

NCCU fell behind early after Campbell took the doubles point. Senior Hugo Hidalgo Vega and junior Rodrigo Alves did triumph in the No.1 Doubles slot 6-2 over Thomas Drapeau and Matias Lofink, but the Camels clinched the first team point after winning the No.2 and 3 slot with scores of 7-5 each.

Pankowski won the No.5 Singles position in three sets, winning the first 6-2 and the third 6-3. Saarinen followed in the No.6 Singles slot winning his first (6-1) and third (6-2) set.

The Eagles are now 3-4 on the season with two road matches to end the week before spending spring break in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA National Campus. NCCU travels to Longwood University on Feb. 27 before opening MEAC play at Norfolk State University on March 1.
