NORFOLK, Va. – Jada Tiggett was named MEAC Women's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season on Monday, Feb. 10.
Tiggett has captured the weekly award three times in the last four weeks. The Eagles were idle the week she did not win.
Tiggett showcased her athleticism and all-around play against two top teams this past week. She averaged 8.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2.5 steals in losses to Norfolk State and Howard, which are first and second, respectively, in the MEAC standings.
Her six blocks against Norfolk State and three steals against Howard were season highs for the 6-2 guard-forward sophomore, who ranks second in the MEAC in blocks (1.9 bpg) after leading the category as a freshman. She currently leads the MEAC with 3.0 blocks per game in conference games.
A native of Winchester, Calif., Tiggett has won the league's weekly defensive honor four times in her two-year collegiate career. She was also named MEAC Rookie of the Week once in her first year.
