Eagles Host Aggies in Rivalry Showdown

DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central hits the hardwood against North Carolina A&T in a women's basketball matchup between archrivals at McDougald-McLendon Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 2. The contest starts at 6:30 p.m. and will be livestreamed on ESPN+.

The Eagles (1-6) will host the Aggies (2-4) at home for the first time in three years. Overall, the teams will tangle for the 58th time since 1975. NCCU has 11 wins in the series including three consecutive victories in 2020. The last time NCCU defeated A&T at home was 65-52 five years ago.

NCCU is aiming for another victory in the season series on Tuesday. A&T has captured the last seven contests including an 86-79 road win in 2022.

The non-conference game will feature two squads that live on the free throw line. The Eagles average 21.4 free throw attempts per game, good enough to rank 52th nationally in the category.

NCCU canned 12 of 14 free throws for a season-high 85.7 percent against UNC Greensboro in its previous game on Nov. 26. Najah Lane is the MEAC co-leader in free throw percentage (89.3) in addition to being the conference assists leader (4.3).

A&T, the defending CAA regular-season champion and former MEAC member, is fifth in the country in shooting free throws, getting to the line an average of 27.7 times per game. The Aggies are making their free throws count, hitting 17.3 per game which is 17th-best in the nation.

The Eagles and Aggies are both averaging just under 63 percent from the charity stripe.

Both teams are keyed by their frontcourts. NCCU forward Morgan Callahan paces the Eagles in scoring (9.7 ppg) and rebounding (7.1) and forward Aniya Finger is second in both categories. Callahan leads the Eagles in steals (1.7 spg) and is tied for total blocks (5).

A&T center Chaniya Clark is the team leader in points (11.2 ppg), rebounds (7.0 rpg) and blocks (1.0). Paris Locke, a forward, leads the Aggies in assists (2.0) and steals (1.2).
