Johnson Named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central guard Dionte Johnson has been named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon. This is the second time this season that an Eagle has received defensive honors.

Johnson has been a ballhawk this season. Last week, the guard totaled seven steals in two contests, with five coming against Carolina University. In the same game, Johnson passed for 11 assists.

The senior leads the conference in total steals (25) and steals per game (2.8). Johnson is also fifth in the country in total steals and 13th in steals average. He leads the MEAC in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.8), taking care of the ball at the point.

Johnson looks to help NC Central win its first road game as the Eagles head to James Madison on Wednesday, Dec. 3. The game tips at 7 p.m. in the Atlantic Union Bank Center.
