Women’s Tennis Has Dominant Showing at Pirate Hidden Dual

HAMPTON, Va. – North Carolina Central's women's tennis team had a total of 14 victories at the Pirate Hidden Dual on Nov. 1-2 at Hampton's Neilson-Screen Tennis Stadium.

The Eagles opened Saturday facing Longwood, starting with two doubles wins. Sara Barbaric and Valeria San Miguel Soria headed into singles with a 6-3 triumph together in the No.1 slot, as well as Mariana Zottoli and Alejandra Hidalgo Vega's 6-4 victory at the No.2 position.

In singles, Barbaric and Valentina de Aquino both dropped their first sets before securing tiebreaker wins. Gabriela Mejia Arenas followed suit with a pair of 6-3 sets.

On Sunday, NCCU swept Christopher Newport. Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and Mariana Zottoli, joined Saturday's doubles duos with a win of their own. Hidalgo Vega was the only Eagle to play a tiebreaker, while San Miguel Soria, Zottoli, Barbaric, de Aquino and Mejia Arenas all won in straight sets.

NC Central has a quick turnaround as they fly to San Diego, Calif. for two tournaments. San Miguel Soria and Barbaric will compete in the ITA Conference Master's as a doubles team on Nov. 6-9. The remaining Eagles will see action at the San Diego State Fall Classic on Nov. 7-9.
