NORFOLK, Va. – Gage Lattimore and Khouri Carvey garnered Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference weekly honors after the first week of the season. Lattimore was named the conference's Player of the Week, while Carvey earned Defensive Player of the Week recognition, announced by the MEAC on Monday afternoon.
The Eagles opened the season with three straight games on the road, including stops at two ACC opponents. Lattimore wasn't fazed, scoring 20 at NC State and 25 at Virginia. He averaged 19.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and shot 52.9 percent from beyond the arc. Lattimore also shot a perfect 19-of-19 from the free-throw line.
Carvey answered the call as well for NCCU, almost averaging a double-double with 14.7 points and 9.3 rebounds. Carvey completed a double-double at Virginia with 17 points and 11 rebounds. He gathered two steals and totaled 11 offensive rebounds, giving the Eagles more opportunities to score.
Lattimore sits third in the MEAC in scoring (19.3), first in three-point field goal percentage (52.9) and minutes per game (38.0), and is tied for first in free-throw percentage (1.000). Carvey is seventh in the conference in scoring average (14.7) and first in rebounds per game (9.3).
NC Central hosts its home opener on Wednesday, Nov. 12 at McDougald-McLendon Arena, welcoming Bluefield State. Tip is set for 7 p.m.
