NCCU Volleyball Downs S.C. State For 21st Straight Time

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – North Carolina Central kept its volleyball win streak against South Carolina State alive on Friday, winning 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-18) in a MEAC match at Dukes Gymnasium. The Eagles' victory was the 21st in a row over the Bulldogs.

Kamren Harper paced the Eagles with her fourth consecutive double-double in kills and digs. She recorded team-highs of 15 kills and 11 digs as NCCU took care of SCSU for its second win in a row. Both victories were by 3-0 scores.

RECORDS
NCCU improved to 3-4 in the MEAC and 6-13 overall as the first half of the MEAC schedule comes to a close. South Carolina State dropped to 1-6 in the MEAC and 4-15 overall.

NCCU TOP PERFORMERS HOW IT HAPPENED
The Eagles cruised to victory in the first set 25-14 but battled in the second set before prevailing 25-22. The Bulldogs rallied from a six-point deficit to lead 21-20 but the Eagles responded with a 5-1 run to pull out the second set. A kill by Tayah Little from Cripa Nasser finished off the Bulldogs.

The third set was competitive until a late run by the Eagles turned a 16-16 tie into a 24-16 lead. The eight-point surge sparked the Eagles to victory.

"Aside from some errors in the second set, we played a clean match and were able to minimize the impact of their best player," Jonathan Paulk said. "Kamren led our team on offense with good decision making."

  • The Eagles led in kills (40-26), attack percentage (.230-.129), service aces (7-3), assists (39-26) and digs (50-42).
  • Harper's double-double was her fifth this season and 12th of her four-year career.
  • The Eagles captured back-to-back victories for the second time this season.
  • NCCU is one win away from tying last year's win total.
  • NCCU has won six consecutive sets.
  • NCCU has not lost to South Carolina State since 2015.
  • NCCU is 29-9 against South Carolina State since 2007.

The Eagles play away from McDougald-McLendon Arena three times next week, starting with a non-conference trip to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m.
