DURHAM, N.C. – Two days after defeating Pfeiffer, North Carolina Central returns to MEAC action on Saturday against South Carolina State at McDougald-McLendon Arena at 2 p.m. The Eagles are aiming for their fourth straight win in the women's basketball contest, which will be livestreamed on ESPN+.

After playing a challenging non-conference schedule, the Eagles (5-14 overall, 2-2 MEAC) have strung together three consecutive wins, including two MEAC victories. They are in a three-way tie for third in the conference standings.

The inside duo of Morgan Callahan and Jada Tiggett and standout guard Kyla Bryant have paced the Eagles during the win streak. Callahan scored a career-high 23 points in a 90-55 non-conference win over Pfeiffer Thursday.

Tiggett has registered double-doubles in her last two games. She finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds in addition to four blocks and three steals in a 76-71 home win over Delaware State last Monday. Her effort earned Tiggett the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honor. Against Pfeiffer, Tiggett tallied 18 points and a career-high 13 rebounds in addition to three blocks.

Bryant scored 17 points against Pfeiffer, snapping a three-game streak of 20 or more points. Two weeks ago, Bryant scored a career-high 32 points in a 92-86 double overtime win over Maryland Eastern Shore at home.

The MEAC has taken notice of the Eagles' recent play. Four players – Bryant, Callahan, Tiggett and Shakiria Foster – have won conference weekly honors in January. In addition to Tiggett's award, Bryant has been named MEAC Player of the Year twice, Callahan was selected Defensive Player of the Week and Foster won Rookie of the Week.

The Eagles have no time to celebrate just yet. Ten MEAC games are left, including Saturday's home encounter against South Carolina State. NCCU has had its way with South Carolina State as of late, winning the last five matchups. The Eagles need a victory to stay in the upper half of the MEAC standings.

South Carolina State (2-18 overall, 1-3 MEAC) is seventh out of eight teams in the league standings. However, its one conference win was against Delaware State, the same team the Eagles defeated this month.

The Bulldogs, led by Angie Juste-Jean, will be well rested. They last played Jan. 13, a 63-55 loss to Maryland Eastern Shore at home. Shaunice Reed scored 19 points and Juste-Jean chipped in 10 points. Juste-Jean leads SCSU with a 12.4 scoring average.

The Eagles will look to stop Juste-Jean and her teammates to extend their three-game win streak.
