SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 match on the road at Wofford College on Friday. Sophomore Alejandra Hidalgo Vega captured the Eagles' only point in her triumph in singles.
In a play-to-clinch match, NCCU (0-7) battled to try to get to four points first for victory. The Eagles would get behind early as the Terriers entered singles competition with a one-point lead after two doubles wins.
Hidalgo Vega's singles match would extend the day for the Eagles. Wofford's (5-2) challenger Brianna Wilbur would lose 6-4, 6-0 to Hidalgo Vega as the Terriers were ahead 3-1.
Seniors Jade Houston and Isabelle Exsted and junior Lafi Joao's matches were the only other matches to finish. Joao dropped a pair of 6-0 sets while Exsted fell 6-2, 6-0 in No.5 Singles.
Houston was defeated 6-1, 6-4 to close out the match giving Wofford its fourth point for victory.
NC Central travels again on Saturday, Feb. 17 for a 1 p.m. match at Davidson College.
