NCCU Women’s Tennis Halted by VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team fell 7-0 at Virginia Commonwealth University on Friday afternoon.

NCCU (0-3) traveled across state lines for the first time this season for its third road match. Virginia Commonwealth (3-0) hosted the Eagles in its first match of the day as they prepare to face George Mason University on Friday evening in a doubleheader.

The contest started with doubles as one match went unfinished. Junior Kennedy Hill and sophomore Candice Bernier teamed up in the No.1 slot but were defeated 6-2. Senior Isabelle Exsted and Gabriela Mejia Arenas' 6-1 loss in No.3 doubles completed the team point for VCU.

Fellow sophomore Alejandra Hidalgo Vega joined Bernier in two tough singles matches. Bernier completed her match in two 6-4 sets falling to VCU's Anja Draskovic. Hidalgo Vega pushed her opponent Yelizaveta Karlova to a tiebreaker to wrap up the second set. She eventually dropped the match 6-3, 7-6.

The Eagles host their first match of the spring when Radford University plays at NCCU on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m.
