NCCU Women’s Tennis Swept by No.8 NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team was defeated by No.8 North Carolina State University 7-0 on Saturday evening.

NCCU (0-2) concluded its first week of the spring season falling in back-to-back matches on the road against top-15 competition. The Eagles faced three nationally ranked players in singles and two ranked duos in doubles.

NC State (3-0) opened doubles with a pair of 6-0 sets earning the first point of the match. Junior Kennedy Hill and sophomore Candice Bernier pushed the No.7 ranked doubles team of Amelia Rajecki and Maddy Zampardo in a match that went unfinished 3-2 with NC State leading.

The Eagles combined for 20 games won in singles including six from senior Jade Houston. She dropped her match 6-4, 6-2 to No.40 Anna Zyryanova. Sophomore Alejandra Hidalgo Vega fell 6-3, 6-2 to No.3 Amelia Rajecki and Bernier was defeated by No.19 Sophie Abrams 6-4, 6-1.

NCCU heads back on the road next Friday, Jan. 26 for a noon match at Virginia Commonwealth University.
