DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central University freshman
Alejandra Hidalgo Vega picked up her fourth consecutive singles victory during the Eagles' 6-1 loss to UNC Asheville at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown on Tuesday afternoon.
In her first action in the No. 1 position, Hidalgo Vega battled and defeated Ami Grace Dougah 6-4, 1-6, 10-7 to claim the lone maroon and gray point.
Reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week
Candice Bernier was clipped by Rosie Dickson (6-0, 6-0), while juniors
Jade Houston and
Maria Picazo Martin fell to Elizabeth Tindera and Avery Sager 6-4, 6-3, and 6-2, 6-0, respectively.
Sophomore
Kennedy Hill was tripped by Linge Steenkamp (6-1, 6-0), while her classmate
Lafi Joao was beaten by Valeria Centeno (6-0, 6-1).
In doubles, Hill/Bernier fell to Dickson/Dougah (7-5), Hidalgo Vega teamed up with sophomore
Isabelle Exsted and was outlasted by Tindera and Centeno (6-3), and Houston/Joao's bout with Steenkamp and Ari Siegel went unfinished.
Up next, NCCU (4-6) will host Wofford on Saturday, March 11 at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts at 1 p.m.
