DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team battled but was defeated 4-3 by Wofford College on Saturday afternoon at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts.
Freshman
Alejandra Hidalgo Vega extended her singles win streak to five and improver her recorded to 8-3 on the season after picking up a three set victory over Lilly Woods 6-3, 7-6, 6-2.
Reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week
Candice Bernier defeated Georgia Fischer (7-6, 6-3), while sophomore
Isabelle Exsted beat Emely Kahrs (6-2, 6-4).
Sophomore
Kennedy Hill was outlasted by Breda Brennan (6-3, 6-3), and junior
Jade Houston fell to Brianna Wilbur (6-2, 6-3).
In doubles action Houston teamed up with sophomore
Lafi Joao and fell to Brennan and Emma Sorensen (6-0), Exsted/Hidalgo Vega was beaten by Wilbur and Catherine Blouin (6-3), and Hill/Bernier's match against Woods/Fischer went unfinished.
Up next NCCU (4-7) will host the MEAC Round-Up Tournament at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. The action begins on Thursday, March 16 and runs through Saturday, March 18.
The Eagles will battle Delaware State on Thursday at noon, Howard, and Coppin State on Friday at 9 a.m. and 12 p.m., respectively, and Morgan State on Saturday at 3 p.m.
