Box Score DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team defeated North Carolina A&T State University 5-2 at the Dr. James W. Younge Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles are on a three-game winning streak for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
The action began in doubles where sophomore
Kennedy Hill and current MEAC Rookie of the Week
Candice Bernier beat Cielo Tapia-Cruz and Nuria Sanz 6-3.
The Aggies only had five competitors so sophomore
Lafi Joao and junior
Jade Houston's match against Lana Caculovic and Nour Gueblaoui was unfinished 5-4 and NCCU claimed the doubles point.
In singles, freshman
Alejandra Hidalgo Vega battled and outlasted Tapia-Cruz 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, while Houston fought and defeated Gueblaoui 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
Joao clinched the maroon and gray victory when she beat Asima Sazan 6-4, 6-4. Hill fell to Caculovic (7-5, 6-1) and Bernier was clipped by Sanz (6-4, 6-4).
Up next, NCCU (4-5) will shoot for a fourth straight victory when they travel to Asheville to take on UNC Asheville at the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown on Tuesday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
