CARY, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team defeated Morgan State University 4-3 to earn its third consecutive victory inside Cary Tennis Park on Saturday afternoon.
Reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week
Alejandra Hidalgo Vega improved to 11-4 in singles competition with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Averiana Mitchell, while her classmate
Candice Bernier claimed her seventh victory of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Stefania Moysiadi.
Sophomores
Kennedy Hill and
Isabelle Exsted also kept their momentum rolling. Hill is on a three-match win streak after clipping Asmara Rose 6-3, 6-3, and Exsted has won five matches in a row after beating Natalia Switschnik 6-2, 6-4.
Current MEAC Player of the Week
Lafi Joao fell to Lauryn Hall 6-4, 6-3, while junior
Jade Houston was beaten by Hannah Smith 6-2, 6-1.
In doubles, Hidalgo Vega/Exsted clipped Ana-Lei Kalawe and Moysiadi 6-3. The parings of Hill/Bernier and Joao/Houston fell to Hall/Mitchell and Smith/Rose with both matches ending 7-5.
NCCU (7-8, 3-1MEAC) will return to action on Sunday, March 26 against LIU at the Dr. James W Younge Tennis Courts.
