CARY, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's and women's tennis teams will host the 2023 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up at the Cary Tennis Park in Cary on March 16-18.

The women's team will play four matches across the three days. On Thursday they will face Delaware State at noon. On Friday they will battle Howard at 9 a.m. and Coppin State at noon. The Eagles will close out the action against Morgan State at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

The men's team will play one match each day. On Thursday they will battle Coppin State at 9:00 a.m. Then they will face Morgan State on Friday at 3 p.m. The Eagles will wrap up their action against Howard on Saturday at noon.

NCCU's women's unit features the reigning MEAC weekly award winners. On Monday the league office announced sophomore Lafi Joao as the MEAC Player of the Week and freshman Alejandra Hidalgo Vega as the MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Joao has won four of her last five singles matches, including having the victory-clinching win multiple times, while Hidalgo Vega is currently sporting a five-match win streak that started at the beginning of the month. 

The maroon and gray men's team has two individuals with three singles wins and two with a pair of victories. Also, multiple Eagles earned MEAC weekly honors for their effort earlier this season.

Freshmen Kareem Abdul Hakim and Naresh Bharathy were named MEAC Rookie of the Week for consecutive weeks in February. Abdul Hakim has two wins this season, while Bharathy has three.

Graduate student Sebastian Pino was named MEAC Player of the Week for his stretch of matches to close out February and begin March with a total of three victories. Junior Shaka Cristellotti has two wins so far this season.
