NCCU’s Wright Named MEAC Co-Player of the Week

NORFOLK, Va. – North Carolina Central University guard Justin Wright was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.

The Greenville, North Carolina native had a pair of strong performances for the Eagles to extend their win streak to six. In the two maroon and gray victories, he averaged 22 points, six rebounds, 2.5 assists, and two steals.

First on Saturday against Howard, Wright scored a game-high 24 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the floor with a pair of triples and was perfect on all six free throws. He also grabbed six rebounds, dished out two assists, and had one steal.

On Monday night against Norfolk State, he poured in all 20 of his points in the second half and overtime to lift the Eagles over the Spartans in a thriller.

In the extra five minutes, Wright scored seven points including going 3-4 from the charity stripe. He also showed his two-way excellence by getting a pair of his three steals with 2:24 and six seconds remaining to help NCCU close out the game.

Wright is sharing the honor with Norfolk States Kris Bankston who also claimed the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week nod for his performances against South Carolina State and NCCU.

NCCU (16-11, 9-4 MEAC) will travel to Orangeburg, South Carolina to close out MEAC regular season play against South Carolina State on Thursday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.
