The Eagles are still in search of their first road win of the season after slipping up to Presbyterian College, 76-58, on Wednesday. NC Central (3-4 Overall) will play all six of its December games on the road and the Eagles are about to play game three of a season-long, nine-game road swing.
Redshirt junior forward
Morgan Callahan is the reigning MEAC Defensive Player of the Week. She netted her second double-double of the season with a season-high 18 points and a team-best 11 rebounds against the Blue Hose. Callahan ranks second in the MEAC with 8.7 rebounds per game, eighth in the league with 1.8 steals per game and eighth in the conference with 11.7 points per game.
The Eagles, who have been playing with just 7-8 active players the last few games due to injuries, are still the highest scoring team in the MEAC with an average of 68.3 points per game with senior
Kimeira Burks and freshman
Kyla Bryant ranking second and fifth in the league in scoring, respectively, with averages of 14.1 and 12.3 points per game.
NCCU lost to Campbell last season in Durham by a score of 71-55. The Eagles had won the previous two meetings, but the Camels still hold a 17-4 all-time series lead over NC Central. Burks scored 14 points against Campbell last year, including a trio of made 3-pointers, before fouling out.
CAMPBELL BENCH
The Camels had a three-game win streak snapped with a narrow 42-41 road loss at University of Central Florida on Sunday. Campbell (5-2 Overall) is 2-0 at home and will be playing its first season in the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) after competing in the Big South Conference last year.
Senior forward Christabel Ezumah paces Campbell with averages of 12.1 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. The Camels have had the same starting lineup in each of their first seven games with graduate students Brittany Staves and Shy Tuelle both averaging just over nine points per game as Campbell's top 3-point threats. Ezumah and Tuelle are both previous All-Big South First Team honorees who both were named Preseason All-CAA Honorable Mention.
Against NCCU last season, Tuelle made four 3-pointers on the way to a team-high totals of 13 points and eight assists in the Campbell victory. Staves chipped in 10 points and seven rebounds as the Camels outrebounded the Eagles by a 42-25 margin.
