NCCU’s Modlin and Dearinger Collect More MEAC Weekly Awards

NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore outside hitter Emmie Modlin and junior setter Bella Dearinger each earned their second MEAC volleyball weekly awards of the season for their strong playing performances during North Carolina Central University's Homecoming weekend, as announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Nov. 6.
 
Modlin retained MEAC Player of the Week status for a second straight week while Dearinger was selected MEAC Setter of the Week for the second time in the past four weeks.
 
Modlin posted new career-high, single-match kill totals in consecutive matches over the weekend. In Friday's big 3-1 win over University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Modlin ripped 21 kills with a .364 hitting percentage. She followed that up with a new best 22 kills and a .327 hitting percentage in a five-set match against defending champion Delaware State University on Sunday.
 
For the week, Modlin averaged 4.78 kills per set with a .343 hitting percentage. She supplied 11 digs against the Hornets for her fifth double-double of the season.
 
Modlin, who hails from Pinehurst, North Carolina, ranks fourth in the MEAC with an average of 3.04 kills per set. She also leads NCCU's starters with a .234 hitting percentage while chipping in 1.78 digs per set.
 
Dearinger netted a pair of double-doubles from the setter position and tallied a new season-high 46 assists in NCCU's triumph over the Hawks. She filled up the box score against UMES with 46 assists, 10 digs, four kills, two aces and two blocks. Dearinger capped her week with 36 assists and 13 digs against DSU.
 
In the two matches for the week, Dearinger averaged 9.11 assists and 2.56 digs per set.
 
Dearinger, a resident of Muncie, Indiana, is fourth in the MEAC with a season-average of 7.12 assists per set while ranking second on the team with 2.02 digs per set.
 
NC Central will conclude its regular season at home against MEAC rival South Carolina State University. The Eagles will celebrate Senior Night just before Friday's home finale inside McDougald-McLendon Arena that is slated to start at 6 p.m.
