GREENSBORO, N.C. – Multiple Eagles shine on the first day of the Spartan Fall Invitational on Oct. 6-8. NCCU competed against North Carolina Wesleyan, Presbyterian, Norfolk State, UNC Asheville, and the host school UNCG. Queens and South Carolina State were the only two teams that NCCU did not face.
Men's tennis gathered five singles victories on Friday, Oct. 6. Junior
Hugo Hidalgo Vega and freshman
Leo Fortier-Gariepy defeated their Norfolk State opponents. Hidalgo Vega topped Deniz Okyay 6-4, 6-3, while Fortier-Gariepy outlasted Boris Lunin 7-5, 6-2.
Sophomores
Kareem Abdul Hakim and
Naresh Bharathy, as well as junior
Oliver Saarinen overcame tiebreaker sets. Abdul Hakim defeated Jakub Solarski (NSU) 5-7, 6-0[4], and Bharathy beat Frederick McRae (NSU) 6-2, 6-7[5]. Saarinen won against UNCG's Christopher Johns 6-1, 5-7[3].
The Eagles continued their winning ways, earning two doubles victories on Friday. Hidalgo Vega and Abdul Hakim triumphed against Albert Sitwell and Diego Segovia of N.C. Wesleyan 6-2. Alvaro Gomez and Brody Brice, also of N.C. Wesleyan, lost 6-3 to senior

Lucas Artigas.
NCCU battled UNC Asheville, UNCG, and Presbyterian on the final two days of competition before returning to Durham, N.C.
Men's tennis will prepare for their final fall event on Oct. 20-24 at the ITA Carolina Regional Championships. The tournament will be hosted by Duke and will take place at the Cary Tennis Park.
