BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University bounced back from a 3-2 loss at North Carolina Central University on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over the Eagles to begin Saturday's play in the Campbell Invitational.
The Camels, who hit .442 in a win over Robert Morris University on Friday, continued their hot hitting against the Eagles to earn their second straight win by a score of 25-22, 25-15, 25-16. Campbell (4-7) finished with a .326 hitting percentage against NCCU.
Freshman
Kamren Harper led the maroon and gray with eight kills. Harper and classmate
Emmie Modlin accounted for NCCU's only two aces, which was a response by the Camels after the Eagles served up 11 aces against them on Tuesday.
Modlin also contributed seven digs and six kills.
Fellow freshman
Tori Wilson added five kills and two blocks (one solo). Wilson was named to the Campbell Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading the Eagles with 2.22 kills and 0.67 blocks per set and a .196 hitting percentage in NCCU's three matches.
Sophomore setter
Vanila Pulu-Suliafu logged 19 assists and matched Modlin with seven digs.
The Eagles held a late 20-17 edge in the opening set with both aces coming in that frame, but rallied with an 8-2 surge to take the opener. Campbell then hit over .400 for the next two sets to complete the sweep.
Senior Lailah Green and freshman Gwen Wolkow highlighted play for the Camels with 12 points apiece.
NC Central (1-9) will next begin Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play on the road at Morgan State University on Friday at 6 p.m.
