NO. 3 – North Carolina Central University senior Marvin Jones and sophomore Matthew Swepson shined during outdoor track & field postseason championships, setting new standards in NCCU's NCAA Division I era.

During the MEAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Jones won the men's high jump conference title with a leap of 2.13 meters. For Jones, it is his fourth career MEAC medal and third gold, making him the first Eagle to earn three gold medals in the Division I era. The Hillsborough, North Carolina, native previously claimed a bronze medal during the 2020 MEAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, a gold medal at the 2021 MEAC Outdoor Championships, and a gold medal in the 2022 MEAC Indoor Championships.

At the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field East Preliminary Championships, Jones soared a career-best 2.15 meters to place 13th, just one spot away from becoming the first Eagle to qualify for the NCAA National Championships since NCCU transitioned to Division I in the summer of 2011. 

Swepson picked up four medals at the MEAC outdoor championships, including his lone silver medal in the men's javelin throw with a career-best mark of 56.56m. The Durham, North Carolina, native also set a personal-best in the hammer throw with a 45.22m heave to place third. His other two bronze medals came in the discus and shot put, posting distances of 45.31m and 15.21m, respectively. His 26-point performance garnered him the Most Outstanding Field Athlete Award, the first Eagle to do so in the Division I era.
